Birthing Beyond the Binary

creating dignified, liberatory & decolonial reproductive spaces for queer, trans & non-binary folx. - comprehensive training taught by an instructor with the lived experience.

next starts cohort January 8 2023

this course expands on Sister Song’s definition of reproductive justice* to include queer, trans and non-binary folx. by the end, you will have a greater understanding of modern day birthing people, kinships and how to support them throughout their reproductive lifespan. you will learn about special considerations and how to create a truly decolonized, intersectional and libratory space for queer, trans & non-binary folx.

who should take this course?

anyone who supports, or would like to support, the reproductive health of queer, trans & non-binary folx, including but not limited to: birth workers, OB/GYNs, midwives, physical therapists, pelvic floor therapists, fertility specialists, abortion counselors, etc.

this course is for you if:

  • you are aware of your blank spots in knowing the needs of people who’s lived experiences are so very different from your own

  • you recognize the gaps in your knowledge of how to be inclusive in your reproductive health care

  • you want to be a part of a growing and evolving community that is dedicated to expanding their knowledge base to serve sexual and gender diverse people

  • you are unsure how to make your practice safe(r) for queer, trans & non-binary folx

  • you want a comprehensive training taught by an instructor who has lived experiences of the patients/clients that you would like to provide quality and dignified care to

  • you are ready to dig deep into dismantling systems of oppression and bringing a decolonized and intersectional framework to your reproductive health care

  • if you recognise that more than lip service needs to be done for change to happen, and you know that learning about pronouns is only the beginning of integrating this framework into your practice.

“But there’s been a lot of objection to my pregnancies in terms of the medical side of things. I’ve been told I don’t belong in certain places because I’m not a woman and I’ve been offered an abortion more times than any woman would have been offered by medical staff.”
